point bonita & rodeo beach
David & I drove up to the Marin Headlands today, and explored Point Bonita. It was very foggy & windy. We arrived at 9:30AM to discover that the lighthouse itself doesn't open until 12:30PM, and today, the entire half mile trail to the lighthouse was closed in the morning so that a car commercial could be filmed. We ended up exploring all the trails around the decommissioned Nike Missile batteries. The batteries were in a fairly degraded state with alot of graffiti & assorted garbage (plus the iron doors were severely rusted in many places). We still had a good time, and gradually worked our way back down towards Rodeo Beach.
The good thing about fog & wind is that its perfect kite flying weather. After we played on the beach for a bit, and had lunch, we drove back out to the lighthouse.
The wait was worth it, as the trail down to the lighthouse had amazing views of San Francisco. In addition, we had to walk through a lengthy, hand carved tunnel on the way down to the lighthouse. And as if that wasn't enough fun for David, we also had to cross this very shaky bridge. The bridge had a weight limit of 500lbs or 2 people. As we were crossing, the bridge was actively swaying a few inches. All in all, we had a good day, and I wouldn't mind going back some time (hopefully in somewhat sunnier weather) to explore a few more trails in the area.
