keep walking

We took BART into the city, and got off at the Embarcadero station. We didn't really have any solid plans for the day, other than to just wander around aimlessly. We walked a few blocks west, and then started to cut north on Kearny, through Chinatown. We stopped into a few oriental grocery markets, and continued onward through North Beach (Little Italy). I saw a sign pointing towards the Coit Tower, and somehow convinced Denise that we should hike up to the top of Telegraph Hill. It was a long walk, but it was worth it. The views were impressive.
Afterwards, we walked down the hill, and had lunch at Hunan Home. We had been once before, and the food was excellent. Basically, you don't go for the service or atmosphere, but the amazing food. We ordered hot & sour soup, chinese eggplant in garlic sauce and orange peel chicken:

After being thoroughly stuffed, we walked over towards the Union Square area, and looked into a few stores. We kinda ran out of things to do in mid-afternoon, and our dinner reservations weren't until 5:45PM. We decided to take BART down to the area of the restaurant, in the hope that we'd find stuff to do there. No such luck. We had never been to the mission district before, and getting off of BART at the 24th & Mission stop was a bit eye opening. The Mission district is a bit gritty, although walking a few blocks away from Mission Ave does result in a significant improvement. At any rate, there really wasn't much to do or see (at least not anything obvious to us), and we spent nearly 2 hours walking around somewhat aimlessly.
Eventually, the time for our dinner reservation at The Last Supper Club came. We had sausage with gorgonzolla & bread stuffing for an appetizer:

garlic bread, Ricotta Stuffed Spinach Cannelloni with Sausage and Tomato Sauce:

and Veal Scallopini:

The garlic bread was badly burnt. The rest of the food was fine, but really wasn't anything all that special. For dessert, Denise had Tiramisu and I had Baba' di Napoli:

The desserts were pretty good, and possibly the highlight of the entire meal.
