jury duty, part 2

I took BART back to Oakland today for what I thought might be my last day of jury duty. Yet another exercise in inefficiency, as the jury selection dragged on for hours, and never got finished. That's right, the jury still isn't finalized and I have to go back tomorrow. The worst part is that I never even got called up. I sat in the 'audience' of the courtroom all day as they slowly worked through all the potential jurors. At this point, they've got around 10 or 11, they need 12, plus 2 or 3 alternates. There's only about 10 people left (counting me) so they're really cutting it to the wire. The only way this travesty can get any worse is if I get selected for the jury. During my 1 hour, 43 minute lunch break (yes, this is why nothing ever gets done), I decided to walk around Lake Merrit. This lake is actually a hell of a lot bigger than it looked when I started off, because it has these two curvy inlets that jut off from the main body water. It ended up taking me nearly 90 minutes to do the entire walk.
