light at the end of the tunnel?
Yesterday was an adventure. We took BART into the city, and walked down to the Ferry Buildling to browse & explore the farmer's market. Denise & I had gone back in late March, but it was a completely different atmosphere now. The number of farmer's setup was about four times greater. We sampled some amazing fruit (peaches, nectarines, assorted berries), plus some cheeses (oh your god, they were good!), and occasional chips & crackers. The weather was gorgeous. Afterwards, we walked up to Chinatown, and had lunch at Hunan Home. Contrary to what their website claims, the service is never much to write about, however the food is always consistantly excellent. We had bean curd with two types of mushrooms, orange chicken, and chuck lo-mein. David saw Denise & I eating with chopsticks, and decided to give it a try. He did surprisingly well considering that he really had no clue what he was doing. He managed to shovel a few mouthfulls of food with the chopsticks alone, before falling back to the fork & spoon. David really enjoyed riding on BART.
Last night I watched Paradise Now. For reasons that are mostly unclear to me, this film was very contraversial. Sure, it dramaticized Palestinian suicide bombers, but its not like the film was portraying it from some unique perspective. The film almost felt like a documentary for large portions. Overally, i thought it was well acted, but I didn't see anything ground breaking or unique. It showed things from the other side, which certainly is a needed voice, but there wasn't anything being said that hadn't been said or shown before.
This cold/flu refuses to relent. I was feeling somewhat better in the morning yesterday, but as the day progressed, I remained very congested and continued to feel like overall crap. I took a nap in the late afternoon, which helped a little, but the congestion still wouldn't go away. We ended up walking down to Safeway, where I got one of hose nasal decongestant sprays. I took it last night at 10PM, and within seconds I could breath clearly through my nose for the first time in days. Even better, I slept through the night for the most part, without any breathing problems. The spray did dry out my throat alot, so I was coughing occasionally, but beyond that, I was doing much better. When I woke up this morning, my nose was still clear! Its now been 18 hours since I last used the spray, and my nose is still mostly clear, and my ears briefly unclogged earlier today as well. I took a 2 hour nap this afternoon, which was great. So there might be some hope that maybe I just needed to get my head unclogged and then everything else would improve.
