guns

Last Wednesday evening, while at work, Denise was robbed at gunpoint. Some piece of garbage walked up to the cash register, pulled out a semi-automatic weapon, and ordered her to empty the cash register, and threatened to shoot her if she didn't comply. She gave him the full contents of the register, all \$111, and he fled. Turns out that the same loser had robbed another Barnes & Noble earlier in the day, in Berkley, stole a car, drove that stolen car to Dublin, where he then robbed the store where Denise was working. Denise was understandable shaken up. Her boss was really nice about it, and gave her indefinite leave until she felt ready to return to work.
Last week was actually one of the slowest weeks at work that we've had in a very long time. I'm not sure if it was the beginning of the annual, end of year, slow down, or if it was just a fluke. I'm hoping for the former.
Last night I replaced a failing IBM Deskstar 75GB IDE HD with a Seagate 80GB IDE. The process was fairly painless. All I had to do was copy the data from the old drive to the new. The new one is significantly more quiet than the old, which i guess is a plus. While I had the case open, I also replaced both 256MB PC100 sticks of memory, in the hope that it would resolve the spontaneous lockups that I've been experiencing. Unfortunately, the box locked up again this morning, so now I have no clue what the problem is. It could be the CPU, or the motherboard, or something else altogether, but I have no idea what. I do have a replacement CPU on hand, but that would mean tearing the box apart again, which I hate doing for this box, because the case is so small & cramped.
