We put david to bed outside his crib for the first time tonight. I felt that it was time for him to break away from a crib. We took the mattress out of his crib and put it on the floor in front of the window so that he'd have a wall on one side of him. He was really happy and excited by it for much of the day, but when bedtime actually came, he freaked out and wanted to put the matress back into the crib. At first he wanted to just sit in my lap on the floor next to the bed, but i managed to convince him to lie down. and he was ok as long as i was sitting beside him. But each time i went to get up to leave the room, he freaked out and started to cry. After about 10 minutes of trying to reassure him, i go up and left the room. He spent the next 10 minutes crying hysterically, calling for 'mommy', 'daddy' and 'open the door'. Finally Denise went in and managed to calm him down, and get him to go to sleep in . Sometimes she amazes me.
