I watched Frozen River tonight. It was the story of illegal immigrant smugglers living in poverty along the Canadian border in upstate New York. Cold, bleak, depressing poverty. This isn't to say that it wasn't a good movie, but there was virtually nothing uplifting or rewarding. Just about everyone was trying desperately to eek out a living, and in the end, almost no one was in a better place than when they started.
