friday from hell
Friday was, without a doubt, the worst friday i've had in recent memory. Oracle went bellyup in the morning, and I ended up having to build a replacement server, while racing the clock, since I had to pick up Denise's sister & her husband from the Amtrak station in Emeryville that afternoon. Even once I had the replacement server built and ready to go, things refused to go smoothly. I was trying to add an extra SCSI card which would be attached to a JBOD, but there were SCSI ID conflicts, so i had to yank it out. Then there were also memory errors, so i had to replace some of the memory. Then one of the two harddrives started timing out. That problem seemingly went away on its own.
Somehow I managed to get it all working, and then drove home at high speed to find out that the stupid Amtrak train was an hour late. Then when we got to the Amtrak station, we learned that it 2.5 hours late, so we eneded up having nearly 2 hours to kill.
That part wasn't too bad. We wandered around a Borders for a while, and let david play around an outdoor fountain.
Yesterday Denise took them to the Muir Woods. We spent about two hours there, and we all had a pretty good time. Then we drove further north to Point Reyes. We did the Earthquake trail, and then the Lighthouse, and finally spent 2 hours relaxing on North Beach. I flew a kite, david played in the sand, and we all relaxed. We got home just before 7PM.
Tomorrow we're going to Lassen, which is a fun 4 hour drive north.
