Wow, has this week sucked. Every damn night I've been awakened with customer problems. And every day has been mass chaos & pain. Last night was especially fun when i was awakened about about 11:30PM, and didn't fall back to sleep until about 1AM. Then i somehow turned off my alarm, and slept an hour late. While i'm wolfing down my breakfast my cell rings yet again with another server problem from a customer. Today was moderately crazy, but tonight i moved the database for the most problematic customer to a new server. This is supposedly what will fix the problem and stop me from being awakened any longer. So that actually goes smoothly, and i'm just wrapping it up when my phone rings. A completely different customer with a problem that he's not even capable of explaining. He just emailed in a chunk of a log, and assumed that we'd be able to figure out both what triggered the undescribed problem, and how to fix the undescribed problem. I enlightened him that I needed the complete log with a description of the problem, the error or behavior that they're seeing, and whether they can work around this (since afterhours calls are supposed to be just for issues without a workaround). He said that he'd have to talk to his boss and send me everything in a few minutes.
<few minutes pass>
amazingly they aren't considering this to be urgent, and are willing to wait til the morning to investigate further.
i'm praying i can sleep tonight, but at least this is my last night of being on call this week.
