cell

A few days ago, I received a letter in the mail from my cell phone provider (Cingular), stating that they would be charging me an additional \$5/month because I have a TDMA phone, rather than GSM. I've this TDMA Nokia phone for nearly 5 years, and while it wasn't flashy or even all that full featured, it met my needs. Cingular offered to 'transfer' me over to GSM with a free phone if I signed up for a 1 year contract for \$29.99/month. I poked around their website, and I actually found a 'free' phone that I really liked alot, but there were no \$29.99/month plans listed. So, I called them to ask about it, and it turns out that only the 1 free phone in the offer letter is available with the \$29.99/month plan, and anything else would cost more. I was annoyed, and decided to shop around with other providers. I ended up finding a roughly equivalent plan for \$29.99 from T-Mobile, with a decent phone. I signed up for the plan, and I'm getting a Motorola V630 phone with it.
In other news, I got the rental car on Saturday morning, and after calling VW this morning, they still have no clue why the car is b0rk3d. I get the impression that they're taking their time now that I have a rental. They claimed that they would likely have it figured out by tomorrow morning at the latest, but then it comes down to however much time they need for fixing it.
