watchmen

I saw Watchmen tonight. First, I'll freely admit that I've not read the graphic novel, so perhaps I'm just missing alot. That said, this was one long, overly complex, contrived mess. There were so many subplots and minor characters bolted onto the side of this film that it was weighed down by it all. Each of the 'major' characters had entirely too much backstory to fit them all into a single film. Instead they glossed over so much that they were mostly single dimensional. Also, the special effects were, for the most part, really cheesy. Overall, the entire thing felt like they bit off way more than they could handle. Its disturbing to think of how much got left on the cutting room floor for a film that was released at nearly 3 hours long.
