vicky cristina barcelona & black balloons
I watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona tonight. Overall, it was OK, although the narration was incredibly obnoxious, and mostly unnecessary. Javier Bardem was pretty good, but everyone else seemed rather one dimensional and the supporting cast was mostly a bunch of predictable stereotypes. Somehow they managed to make a love triangle about as exciting as standardized testing.
Afterwards, I saw The Black Balloon. This was an Australian film about a family with a severely autistic teenage son, a second teenage son who was 'normal' and then a baby on the way. It focused on the extreme challenges that they faced, and was really well done. It did have some fairly intense scenes that were painful to watch, but they definitely added.
