the marin headlands
Yesterday, we went hiking in the Marin Headlands. David & I had been up there a few months ago, but this was the first time Denise had gone. We started off heading north from Fort Cronkite, up along the coastal bluffs. It was a bit overcast, and actually started raining lightly for a few minutes however, the rain actually worked out in my favor, as I caught a gorgeous rainbow over the coast. On the walk back, Denise spotted some lillies growing in the wild. Perhaps I just don't get out enough, but I've never seen lillies growing in the wild like this (as opposed to someone planting them intentionally), and they were beautiful. After having some lunch, we walked along Rodeo Beach, and David had fun looking at assorted clam & mussel shells (plus some barnacles on the rocks). Next we drove around to the other side of Rodeo Lagoon, and up to the Point Bonitas Lighthouse. On the trail down to the lighthouse, there were actually even more lillies & some daffodils as well. Something in my head just felt that this was all wrong, since it was late January, but it was pretty none-the-less. Hiking back up from the lighthouse, we noticed two seals resting on a rock down below the bluffs. Afterwards, we spent some time exploring the abandoned missile batteries, and actually stumbled upon two deer in the woods.
