the lovely bones

I watched The Lovely Bones tonight. I'm rather conflicted about this one. Some aspects were extremely well done, whereas other parts were atrocious. The concept is interesting, if not entirely unique. A girl is murdered, and spends much of the film viewing the after effects of her murder from heaven, along with how her family, friends & her murder deal with it. I think what bothered me the most was the gratuitous and cartoonish special effects that were used to represent the afterlife. They were downright horrible, and detracted from the story. Beyond that the performances were decent, although the killer stood out. Overall, Peter Jackson should stick with fantasy.
