the forest of nisene woods
Today, David & I went hiking in The Forest of Nisene Marks state park, which is just a few miles south of Santa Cruz. We did a 6.5 mile hike, where we took the Loma Prieta Grade trail, to Maple Falls, and then back down on the Bridge Creek Trail. The weather was quite nice in the morning, although it started to heat up as we hiked back to the car. Nearly the entire route is under tree canopy, with clusters of Redwoods, and a many ferns along the ground. The mile up to the falls included 5 separate unbridged creek crossings, which David did almost entirely unaided. We saw a nice collection of wildlife, including banana slugs, (poisonous!) centipedes, and a lizard. Pictures are up at the usual place.
