the bushrangers
I watched The Proposition tonight. I wish I had a better understanding of Australian history, so that I would have been able to put the events into better context. However, it was an interesting study in contrasts. From what I've read by Googling a bit, the outback/bush of Australia was essentially policed for the most part by 'heroic' escaped(?) criminals, and the empire ignored it all for the most part, to focus on the cities. The British treated everyone else like crap, the Scottish and Irish treated everyone else deemed beneath them like crap, and the Australians treated the Aboriginals like crap. This movie illustrated those relationships, and also turned them on their head a bit. I also thought that the cinematography was extremely well done.
