so very tired
Wow, last night sucked. I'm sleeping soundly at 10:30PM when my phone rings, and its my favorite (that's sarcasm for those who haven't been paying attention) customer. These idiots somehow managed to accidentally run a 'cvs remove' on the contents of the CVSROOT directory for their cvs repository. But the thing is, they didn't know they did it. So i've got Apu Nahasapeemapetilon on the phone babbling incoherently about how they can't checkout. I ask multiple times, was this working yesterday, and his response is completely unintelligable. At this point I tell him that there's nothing that I can do at 10:30PM at night, cause i'm assuming this is some kind of breakage from an import over the weekend. After getting Apu off the phone, I start pondering wtf is going on. I look at the repository on the server, and I notice that the permissions on all the files are just utterly wrong. Like way off, in crazy fictious chmod-land wrong. On top of that the ownership is wrong too. So i add myself to the project, and attempt a checkout and it blows up almost immediately. I begin what turns into a 2.5 hour ordeal of fixing permissions on assorted parts of this 128MB cvs repository. About 2 hours into it my brain starts to kick in and I realize that it would be enormously faster if i just ran a long:
find . -type d | xargs chmod 2775
and that takes care of just about all of it, except for a bunch of ultra-lame directories with spaces in them. I get back to bed at 1AM, and then i'm wide awake, and can't sleep. I was tossing & turning for close to another hour.
Today I'm a complete zombie, utterly exhausted, and for the past hour or so, I feel like crap too. Thank jebus, i've got just 3 more days of this crap festival.
