I've discovered that wget requires the --no-cache option when used to update an IP from freedns.afraid.org. Without it, the dynamic IP never gets updated.
In other news, the infamous bruising on my leg is 100% gone (for the original bruise, and about 95% gone (for the 'new' bruise).
