med flies, o flies & melon flies
Denise came back from running errands today to find a notice stuffed in our door from the California Department of Food & Agriculture. Apparently "Jason E" from CalDFA placed a trap for the Mediterranean Fruit Fly in the tangerine tree, a trap for the Oriental Fruit Fly in the orange tree and a trap for the Melon Fly in the "Pumello" tree. Now the fact that they put these traps in the trees doesn't bother me too much (better that the govt finds the pests and takes steps to eradicate them than me having to do it). What annoys me is that "Jason E" mis-identified our citron tree as a pumello tree. Granted citrons and pumellos are sort of the same size, shape & color, but isn't it supposed to be his job to be able to correctly identify them? If he can't tell a citron from a pumello tree, then perhaps he put the wrong trap in the tree? Or maybe the traps were just random? Either way, this doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
