Låt den rätte komma in
Last night, we watched Let the Right One In, a Swedish vampire movie. It told the story of a 12 year old boy who is bullied at school, and befriends a 12 year old vampire. While there was quite a bit of fake blood, there was little gore, and the story did a really awesome job. Apparently there's also a bit of backstory that is detailed in the book, which is almost completely glossed over in the film, that involves Eli's origin. Those details actually make the story alot more interesting in a number of ways (see IMDB for a discussion). I think what I liked the most about the film was how subtle they were about the vampirism. Unlike most vampire films, they never showed the actual biting, and the other vampire abilities were treated almost as if they were normal. Sadly, there's now an effort underway to do a US remake of the film, which will almost certainly be far inferior to the original.
