FC4 the final struggle

This morning I upgraded my last (and also primary) workstation from FC3 to FC4. Every upgrade has had a different quirk or problem. This one was unfortunately no exception. Actually the only big problems were the nvidia driver with X, and vmware's bridge kernel driver. So basically binary kernel modules bit me hard.
It seems that my motherboard, the nvidia driver, & FC kernels just don't get along. With both the original 2.6.11 FC4 kernel, and the latest 2.6.12 FC4 kernel, X would lockup, except for the mouse within about a minute of starting. However, using my own 2.6.12.4 kernel (built today) I'm all good.
The vmware problem was solved with a patch from here.
One other oddity with the FC4 kernels is that IRQ handling seemed to be b0rked. IRQ10 kept getting disabled. With my own 2.6.12.4 IRQs are all happy.
At least I'm now done with my FC4 upgrade saga. Now that Fedora is switching to a 9 month release cycle, I should have about a year before I need to go through this again.
I made curry chicken for dinner tonight. Yes, i cheated, and used a curry sauce from a jar, but it came out pretty good. White generic long grain rice, diced chicken thighs & breasts, onions, parsley, sliced carrots, & snap peas, all cooked in the same pot.
