experimenting with dinner
We've been watching alot of Alton Brown's "Good Eats" lately. I got an idea a few days ago to make a pouch dinner. What I did was defrost a salmon steak from the freezer overnight. Then this afternoon, I got out a huge sheet of aluminum foil, and placed a square of ramen noodles on it. Then I placed the salmon steak on top of it. I put a very small coating of butter on the salmon. Next, I sliced up a large orange (with the peel removed) and a lime (with the peel left on), and placed the slices on top of the salmon. Then I got out some diced mango that had been marinating in vinegar in the fridge, and put that around the circumference of the ramen. I folded the foil over the top, and folded up the edges to form a seal on all sides. I put a small hole on the top, threw it into a baking dish (just in case it leaked), and baked it in the oven at 450F for 30 minutes.
Here are the results. It came out amazingly well. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the flavors all blended nicely. I probably should have kept the orange peel on, and taken the lime off, but that's for the next time.
