Das weisse Band

Last night, we watched The White Ribbon, a German film set immediately before the outbreak of World War 1, which tells the story of the lives of those living in a small village. A series of unfortunate crimes (deaths, beatings, etc) transpire over time, which remain officially unsolved throughout, although there's alot of evidence to suggest who the perpetrators were. The cinematography was absolutely gorgeous. Even though the entire film was shot in black & white, they did an amazing job capturing the surroundings. The film had alot of child actors, and they all did a great job with some rather dark and troubling subject matter. Overall, I liked it, even though the ending was left rather widely open to interpretation.
