Das Leben der Anderen
Tonight, I watched The Lives of Others. This was a very interesting film about the the police state in East Germany in the 1980s, and how it systematically surveilled and ruined people's lives. The two most amazing scenes were the one in the elevator where the child confronts the spy who had his father arrested, and at the very end when the writer dedicates his book to that same spy. Anyway, the acting was superb, and the plot was very well paced. The way that the stark bleakness of East Germany was portrayed was perfect, and the soundtrack was truly haunting.
