car not happy

My Passat isn't doing too well. For roughly the past 2 months, it has made this strange blowing sound whenever I've acclerated from stop. I've been ignoring it for the most part, because I haven't noticed any actual problems associated with the noise. Today, on the drive home, this yellow engine icon lit up. Interestingly, I haven't yet noticed any specific problems, other than that light, and the blowing sound. I suspect that the end is near. Its somewhat interesting timing, as Denise & I discussed the need to buy a new car in the near future just a few days ago. So now, my hand is forced. I'm hoping that the car survives until the weekend.
