2007 will be

About 6 weeks ago, my manager approached me to let me know that the group that I'm in at work would be undergoing a reorganization in the near future, to better manage future business growth. So far, so good, because this means that business is good, and usually a reorganization is a bad thing because it means that people are getting laid off. She followed that up by commenting that the group was going to be divided up in 4 teams, and each team would have a team leader. She asked me if I would be willing to be the leader of one of the four groups. This would basically mean that I'd be managing several people in the group, ensuring that they're fullfilling their job responsibilities, etc. Of course this means that I'd have a greater workload, because my current job responsibilties would still be required. After discussing with Denise, I agreed to accept the position. Fast forward to yesterday, when my manager got the two other new team leaders together, and reviewed the teams, and customer/account assignments and explained that the re-org would take effect on January 2. It was mostly what I was expecting, and I was ok with it. Then today, less than a half hour before I'm getting ready to leave for the day, my manager tells me not to leave, because she needs to talk to me. So once again all 4 of us go into a conference room, and she says that she has some bad news that would primarily impact me. Apparently two of the 4 people that were supposed to be in my group were not going to be in my group. One of them was supposed to be a new hire who changed his mind. The 2nd was a contractor who decided to leave the company in late January. So at this point, I'm pretty well screwed, and my managers only comment is that I'll have to manage with the resources that I have for the time being. Gee, thanks for the support.
