I did my state & federal income taxes this weekend. I'm pleased that I'm going to get several hundreds dollars in refunds this year, which is a huge improvement over last year when I owed nearly \$2500. I still wish that the entire experience could be easier and more streamlined. There are no free means of filing the federal income taxes unless I make no more than about \$54k/year (yes, I make quite a bit more than that). I am grateful that the IRS did finally start to drag itself into the 21st century. The online PDF tax forms can now be filled out electronically and saved, which saves me a ton of time having to write everything out. I wish it would be like in (many/most?) European countries where the government does all the math, and tells you how much you owe. California does provide a means of filing via the state website, and it did go rather smoothly, only needing about 15 minutes.
